WWE Reality Era Shines with Summerslam 2011!

World Wrestling Entertainment's unofficial 'Reality Era' had its first pay-per-view yesterday; non other than SUMMERSLAM!

Backstory

Since June 2011, CM Punk has become the main heel of the WWE; The Miz's time in the limelight ended at Extreme Rules 2011 when John Cena defeat both him and John Morrison in a Triple Threat match. Miz tried to win it back in the following RAW matches and once succeeded the day after that pay-per-view but was disqualified and stripped of it for hitting Cena with the belt.
At Over the Limit, John Cena defeated Miz in an 'I Quit' match and soon after,Alex Riley 'broke up' with Miz.
The pay-per-view after that was Capitol Punishment and R Truth was the main heel; he was jealous of Cena and believed he was a 'victim of a conspiracy'. Anyway, Cena defeated him and soon after, CM Punk had the same theory but this time took action by not renewing his WWE Contract and challenging John Cena for the WWE Championship at Money in the Bank. A evenly fought match followed at Cena almost won via STF but Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis wanted the bell to be rung before Punk submitted; Cena, being the face he was, let go and attacked Laurinaitis as he wanted to win fairly and not via screwjob. CM Punk won by the  Go to Sleep, defeated Alberto del Rio (who tried to cash in his RAW Money in the Bank Briefcase) and escaped with the WWE Championship as soon as his WWE Contract officially expired at midnight.
Several nights later, Cena won the 'new' WWE Championship from Rey Mysterio on RAW but CM Punk returned. This CM Punk was not part of NeXus but was the Cult of Personality.

This new era is called the 'reality' era for three reasons

a) There are two active WWE Champions and Summerslam 2011 was to prove who was undisputed.

b) Before Money in the Bank, CM Punk mentioned other organisations (WCW,TNA,New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring of Honour) and stars from the old days (The Rock,'Stone Cold' Steve Austin,Shawn Michaels,Bret Hart and Hulk Hogan) and how they (and Cena in particular) got to the top by "kissing Vince McMahon's ass" ).

c) Due to Vince McMahon trying to screw another Superstar of a title, and that Superstar leaving WWE with the title, the board of directors decided to fire and replaced him with Triple H.

Matches

The Miz, R Truth and Alberto Del Rio vs Rey Mysterio,John Morrison and Kofi Kingston

Miz and Kingston get things started. Kofi seems to have the advantage and tags in Morrison; Morrison get a few hits in but Miz stops JoMo from getting his flow by interrupting his combos. R Truth is tagged in Miz' place and he seems to be in control; JoMo strikes back and Kofi is tagged back in.R Truth tags Miz in again and Kofi still seems to be in control, even managing a Boom Drop on Miz and narrowly missing the Trouble in Paradise; Miz  tries the Skullcrushing Finale but misses. Alberto Del Rio comes in Miz's place and seems to have the advantage;even mocking Kingston's signature 'boom boom' pose after taking him down. Rey Mysterio is tagged in. Alberto tags in R Truth and Miz also joins in; Rey manages a dropkick on one and gets the other into the ropes. He is set up for a double 619 until Alberto Del Rio drags him down on the run-up. JoMo jumps off the ring post onto Alberto Del Rio and Mysterio 619's R Truth; Miz manages to escape but it is short lived as Kofi Kingston jumps over and onto Miz outside of the ring. Mysterio pins R Truth and wins the match.

Winners:  Rey Mysterio,John Morrison and Kofi Kingston
Verdict: 7.5/10-nice ariel moves in this match and it is good to see The Shaman of Sexy again.

Sheamus vs Mark Henry

Both men lock up and are matched blow-for-blow until Mark Henry utilises his strength  and begins throwing Sheamus around like a rag doll and (literally) using his head when they lock up. Sheamus comes back into the match with his double-axe handles and even manages a Brogue Kick to Henry. However, Henry is too strong and regularly gorrila pressed Sheamus and even manages the World's Strongest Slam. Sheamus ends up outside the ring and despite his efforts, is picked up and slammed into the ringpost and through the barricades. Henry wins by count-out and continues his mean streek!

Winner: Mark Henry
Verdict:7.5/10- a surprisingly good match with both men showing off their strength; Sheamus with his kicks and axe-handles and Henry with his slams. Henry is also looking much leaner and less 'jolly' after weight loss!

Kelly Kelly vs Beth Phoenix for WWE Diva's Championship

The blonde bombshell vs the glamazon! Kelly comes in all-guns-blazing and unleashes a barrage of strikes to Phoenix, backing her into the corner twice. However, Kelly has her work cut out for her when Phoenix comes back with her own slams and literally throws her around the ring;even holding her down in submissions. To add to the hurt, Beth even stinkfaces poor Kelly. Kelly holds her own and even manages a facebuster and hanging necklock. Beth still keeps coming though and was about to GlamSlam Kelly until Kelly uses her gymnastic prowess to reverse it and roll out Beth Phoenix for the win.

Winner: Kelly Kelly
Verdict: 7/10-big improvement from the pretty little blonde and only one scream-to-Thesz-Press! The punches looked better and she looks great with the gymnastic flips. Her hair extensions looked far too long though so that prevented the match being an 8/10!

Wade Barret vs Daniel Bryan

The 'American Dragon' comes in fast with strikes and wrestles Barrett down to the ground several times. He even manages to catch him with a shoulder lock on several occassions and attempts a LaBelle lock but Barrett grabs the ropes. Barrett comes back and boxes Bryan;Bryan retaliates and hits Barrett with a series of Muay Thai roundhouses but Barrett returns the favour with slams and attempts-but-fails a Wasteland. Bryan again tries a LaBell but Barrett grabs the ropes and powers out; he jumps off of the ringpost and uses Wasteland to win the match.

Winner: Wade Barrett
Verdict: 6/10- average match between these two. Enough said.

Christian vs Randy Orton for WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a No Holds Barred match

Before the match started, Christian said he had a surprise up his sleeve; that surprise was non-other than his best friend, the Rated R Superstar Edge!! Before Orton's entrance however, Edge said that they both may have been opportunists but hiding behind a legal team and spitting at the opponent is a disgrace-Edge leaves after calling Christian a b*tch. Orton enters.

The match is filled with counter-after-counter with Orton being a big fan of the gut-wrench. The fighting continues outside of the ring and Christian even uses the title as a weapon before trying (but ultimately failing) to escape with it.
Soon the weapons are brought out and Christian begins to assault Orton with the kendo stick. He is unable to pin him though and the fighting continues outside the ring.Orton attempts an RKO on the table but fails and Christian manages to get the upper hand; he mocks the Viper's infamous pose before the Apex Predator strikes back.
Back to the ring and chairs, steel steps and tables are used. Orton manages a suplex off of the ring post and onto the table; he then puts it up onto the other side of the ring but not before Christian attempts a spear- he misses. Randy gets knocked down by Christian's attacks with the steps and he again gets spat on; Orton recovers and uses the steps and chairs and is about to finish the job; Christian quickly recovers and uses the kendo stick again before jumping off of the ringpost. As Christian leaps, Randy jumps up and delivers a mid-air RKO and lands Christian's back onto the steel steps and pins him for the three count!!!

Winner: Randy Orton
Verdict: 8/10-Orton's technical and acrobatic abilities shine through while Christian's ability to choreograph are also seen. Amazing finish!

John Cena vs CM Punk for WWE Championship with special guest referee Triple H

Punk in his Cult of Personality persona makes his first PPV match against Superman Cena. Like with previous matches between these two, there were several counters to the Attitude Adjustment with the Go to Sleep and vice versa.
Cena attempts his STF but CM Punk's long legs allow him to reach the ropes. Cena uses his shoulders blocks and manages to hit Punk with the Five Knuckle Shuffle but Punk throws Cena to the ropes several times and uses his Bull-Rush knee strikes. He even manages to shrug off an STF  by putting his foot on the rope.
Punk eventually gets Cena out of the ring and jumps off the post but both end up being counted out. Triple H decides to keep the match going and brings both wrestlers back in. Cena again tries an STF and it almost worked but Punk gets to the rope on time. Finally,Punk pulls off a Go to Sleep on Cena and pins him for the three count-even though Cena's leg was on the rope!!
As Punk celebrates his victory as the Undisputed WWE Champion, a tall man with a black shirt and jeans appears and attacks Punk! It is non other than Kevin 'Big Sexy' Nash!  As he exits with Punk lying in the ring, Alberto Del Rio cashes in his RAW Money in the Bank briefcase and knocks out  an already stunned CM Punk via head kick! A shocked Triple H has no choice but to give him the three count and thus the title!

Alberto Del Rio is now WWE Champion!

Winner: CM Punk then Alberto Del Rio
Verdict: 8.5/10 -an average Punk match but Cena was looking good this time. The most entertaining part of this match was the ending-Alberto Del Rio is understandable but Kevin Nash?!This was the first time he was in the WWE since the Hall of Fame ceremony and the first time he wrestled since his shock return in January at the Royal Rumble! Will there be a reunion of The Kliq now Triple H is back?

Conclusion
A weak line up (in particular the Three on Three,Sheamus vs Mark Henry and Wade Barrett vs Daniel Bryan) but the matches were pretty good. In particular, it is good to see Kelly Kelly retaining her title in style after having so long without one. The ending was quite random and it opens up a lot curiosity as to what Nash was doing and what Triple H and CM Punk's future roles will be. The pay-per-view is 8/10-it was a 7.5 but when Cee Lo Green came out singing Bright Lights,Bigger City and Forget You, we saw the wonderful Bella Twins,Rosa Mendes and Alicia Fox come out dancing and wearing red dresses-Fox in particular looked cute as she was also wearing a sailor's hat!
