First Bollywood Legend Rajesh Khanna dies aged 69


After a combination of cancer and kidney problems, Rajesh Khanna passed away on 18th July 2012. Khanna was admitted to hospital on the 23rd June 2012 and was dischared by the 8th July; again he was admitted on the 14th July before being dischared on the 17th and dying in his home the day after.

Khanna was called the 'First Superstar of Indian Cinema' for 15 consecutive hits in the 1970s,a record that remains unbroken today; even more impressive, Khanna's first few movies were flops.

Khanna won three Filmfare Best Actor awards and was nominated for the same fourteen times. He received the most BFJA Awards for Best Actor (Hindi) – four times and nominated 25 times. In 1991, he was awarded the Filmfare Special Award for completing 25 years in the industry, appearing in a record 106 films as the single lead protagonist in a span of 25 years. In 2005, he was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award

Khanna is survived by ex wife Dimple (55) and daughters Rinkle (35) and Twinkle (37), the latter of whom is married to action hero Akshay Kumar and has a son and is expecting a second child.
