From the 8th-10th December 2011, there have been two tragedies in the world:
On the 8th December, Virginia Tech University suffered another shooting, this time with Ross Ashley being the perpetruator. However, instead of the 32 killed an 25 injured by Seung Hui Cho in 2007, this time only two died; the shooter himself 22 year-old Ross Ashley (who committed suicide) and Police Officer Deriek Crouse. Crouse was stopping traffic at Cassell Coliseum near the McComas Hall on campus when Ashley shot and killed him. Ashley then ran to another parking lot called The Cage where he killed himself. Luckily for the University, most students were not scheduled for class as it was a reading day, an alert was placed at 12.37pm, campus was on lock-down at 1.01pm and the closing of Montgomery County Schools at 2.12 pm. It is not known the motives for the shooting except that he broke-up with his girlfriend over the summer (an echoing of the autistic Seung Hui Cho stalking girls) ; Ashley was not a student but he played football and had an interest in the Bible, friends say he never drank heavily or smoked and was not the kind of person who would lose his temper.He visited the same shooting range as Cho. Details will come over time.
Also on the 8th December 2011, a fire broke out in AMRI hospital in Kolkata, India; killing over 90 people and counting. The cause of the fire is allegedley combustable materials such as gas cylinders being stored in a basement used for car parking. What adds insult to injury is the fact that authorities did not allow civilians to help in rescue attemps (slum dwellers had to scale the walls with bamboo to get in and help) and the first fire engines came two hours after the fire broke out. India is the second-fasest growing economy in the world behind China with some saying they will overtake China (who will be number one in the 2050s) to the number one spot in the 2060s-2070s. Whereas China made their economy sustain a three-decade long boom government set policies,economy planning and policing; India have adopted a lassiez-faire approach with lots of underhand transactions and competitiveness amongst each other to get the best job. This will damage India's reputation,especially since medicine and healthcare are one of their strengths.

Dr. Conrad Murray-Smooth Criminal? I don't think so.
Dr.Conrad Murray, the Doctor that was responsible for Michael Jackson's health and well-being before his ill-fated This is it tour was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
Murray, 58 faces up to four years in prison and having his medical license revoked.
Jackson, the day before, was in good shape and judging by the audition videos and photographs (below), was ready for the shows.
But before we point the blame, we have to look at what Jackson himself did to cause his death:
Jackson was rehearsing from 9pm until after midnight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday 24th June 2009. The next morning, Doctor Murray found him in his bed not breathing but had a weak pulse and was warm. For 5-10 minutes he unsuccessfully performed CPR on Jackson but there were two problems:
a) He was doing chest compression on a soft bed that absorbs impact thus does not 'bounce back' the heart-restarting vibrations as much as a hard surface.
b) He was using one hand and the other hand to brace Jackson. Standard practice is with two hands.
Murray panicked and told Jackson's son Prince,14 to stay in the bedroom while he called security for help. He could not use his cellphone because he did not know the address they were living at and there was no landline. By the time security called 911, thirty minutes had already passed. At 12.21pm on 25th June 2009 the paramedics were called and reached within 5 minutes. They unsucessfully attempted CPR for 42 minutes and left at 1.08 pm with Jackson.They arrived at the hospital at 1.14pm and unsucessfully tried to revive him. Jackson was pronounced dead at 2.26 pm 25th June 2009.
Autopsies and toxicology reports state Jackson was balding (from drug abuse and the second degree burns suffered during the Pepsi commercial in 1984), had punctures on his arms (from needles and syringes), arthiriris,inflamed lungs,and scars on his upper body. There were many prescription drugs found inside his body and several reports say he was taking up to 8x the recommended daily amount and 30-or so semi dissolved tablets and pills were found in his body with some stories of 40 alprazolam (antianxiety) pills being taken some nights. Drugs found included: sertraline (anti-phobia and anti-depressant), omeprazole (gastrointestinal aid), hydrocone (strong cough medication and painkiller), paroxetine (antidepressant),carisoprodol (muscle relaxant) and hydromorphone (painkiller). The main culprites however, were two very powerful opiods: demerol (a painkiller) and propofol (a general anaesthetic); Jackson was a morphine addict because of the Pepsi Commercial (pain), Chandler case of 1993-94 (stress), People vs Jackson case of 2003-2005 (stress) and of course, the 50 concert This is it tour (stress). Previously he took painkillers such as: Valium, Xanax and Ativan during the Chandler case and during the People vs Jackson case, hardly ate and depended on morphine; during those years he had trouble remembering album names and people he worked with while slurring when he spoke. Elizabeth Taylor once said that when he came to the UK, he needed to be held up and was 'high' to the extent he needed to go to a clinic and take Valium via IV to wean off painkillers.
Jackson said he needed propofol to sleep and called it his 'milk' . Regularly whenever he went to the pharmacist he would call them and they would leave the name area on the prescription form blank or he would put down one of his alias names;naturally an employee went to get these prescriptions and due to this, Jackson would be holding multiple prescriptions.
Cherilyn Lee, a nurse and nutritionalist to Jackson said he insisted he needed it to help him sleep. On June 21 2009, she received a call from one of Jackson's aids, that he was complaining one side of his body was hot and the other cold.
Grace Rwaramba, former nanny to his children, said that Jackson was addicted to Oxycontin and a lethal cocktail of drugs; he would need his stomach pumped or he would die. Jackson's mood would also swing with her and the children and she would be dismissed for several days and then called back to look after the children as Jackson was unable to.
Finally, Janet Jackson admitted the family tried to stop Jackson's drug abuse in 2007 but this fell on deaf ears. In the last years of his life he would tell security not to allow any family members in as they upset him when they tried to stop him taking the medication.

Smokin' Joe Frazer is Down and Out as he Loses his Fight
A member of one of Boxing Pantheon's has sadly passed away on November 8th 2011. Smokin' Joe Frazier, one of the few men to defeat Muhammed Ali, was admitted to a hospice on November 6th with liver cancer and although they were still looking for treatments, it was too late.
Frazier boycotted WBA tournaments from 1967 onward because Muhammed Ali was stripped of the title due to refusing military conscription for the American army against Vietnam. In 1970 he won the WBA Heavyweight Championship when he stopped then-champion Jimmy Ellis by knocking him down twice in the fourth round.
The first fight against Muhammed Ali came on March 8 1971 when Frazier (and many other boxers) boycotted tournaments and petitioned for Ali to be reinstated as a legitimate boxer (Frazier also financially helped Ali). Ali was coming off a three year absence (with the exception of a TKO in the 15th round to Oscar Bonavena). Frazier-Ali I went to Frazier as he managed to stagger Ali in the 11th round and knock him down in the 15th; his strategy was to hit Ali with a left hook after Ali dropped both his hands to throw a right uppercut.Ali had his jaw badly swollen and the match also made Frazier's kidney problems and hypertension worse.
On January 22 1973, George Foreman (yes the man who now sells grills) handed Frazier his first professional defeat and won the title from him. Foreman managed to knock Frazier down six times in two rounds through his heavy punching and after the first two floorings, it was over for Frazier.
On the 28th January 1974 in New York city, it was Frazier-Ali II. This match hardly lived up to the excitement of the first and both men were not in top condition and much more passive than usual (a lot of clinch work and hit-and-run from Ali and only from round 8 and 9 onwards did Frazier get Ali on the ropes). The match was clearly a win for Ali; both men now had a win over one another. Before this match ABC's Wide World of Sports had an interview with both men at the same time and a video highlight of their first fight; Ali insulted Frazier and called him ignorant for thinking he won the first fight.Both men ended up fighting each other on television and were fined.
On October 30,1974, Muhammed Ali knocked out George Foreman in the eighth round of a title fight; the first high profile promotion by Don King.
The Thrilla in Manilla on the 1st October 1975 saw the final, and decisive match up between both men for both the WBC and WBA titles. Before this fight, Ali regularly insulted Frazier by calling him a gorilla and an Uncle Tom (derogatory term that accuses blacks of ignoring their lineage/ choosing to associate with the whites rather than their own kind) due to his appearance and the fact his management team was white.
The Thrilla in Manilla was what one could call the Fight of the Century and was like a Rocky movie! Not only did the fight entertain, but Ali's first wife Belinda found out about his affair with Veronica Porsche was so severe that he even claimed her to be his wife.
The fight saw Ali jump in and unleash on Frazier to try and finish him early, although it staggered Frazier and the first four rounds went to Ali (who shouted "You stupid chump you!"), round 5 saw the tide begin to turn and Frazier use his patented hooks and power to punish a tiring Ali. In the 6th round Ali whispered "Joe, they told me you was all washed up" , Frazier growled back, "They told you wrong, pretty boy." Frazier began to dominate until the end of round 10. Round 11 saw Ali go back to his stick-and-move strategy and by round 12, Frazier's eyes were swollen. Into round 13, Frazier's mouth guard went flying out and was replaced at the end of the round,after the onslaught that cut his mouth badly. Frazier's cornerman Eddie Futch threw in the towel by round 15 because he did not want Frazier to suffer irrepairable damage or die (Frazier was ready to go more). Both men said they were close to death that day and both had haemotomas around their waist,legs and on their head. Although Ali was not in his greatest shape, he said some very important things regarding this match.
"Joe Frazier, I'll tell the world right now, brings out the best in me. I'm gonna tell ya, that's one helluva man, and God bless him...He is the greatest fighter of all times, next to me." He even said later that if there was a war, he'd want Joe Frazier on his side.
Although Frazier had many fights after this, he was already 30 by the time he and Ali fought their second match. He had a rematch with George Foreman and avoided the big blows from him but was knocked down two times by the fifth round. Frazier and Ali's daughters fought each other in 2001 and the latter's daughter won over the eight rounds.
Frazier had mixed feeling about Ali, regularly both alternated between insults and apologies, most notably Frazier said (regarding Ali lighting the torch for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta) that he would like to 'throw Ali into the fire'. In October 2006 he claimed to have won all three bouts he had with Ali but told Sports Illustrated in May 2009 that he no longer held hard feelings toward Ali.

Although the warrior inside Joe wanted to answer the bell for the 15th and final round, his chief second and friend, Eddie Futch, acted as more than a cornerman to step in and refuse to let him continue, so he could live to fight another day."

Joe Frazier never have beat (or fought) a prime Muhammed Ali or George Foreman;he also died sooner than both. One thing to remember is that it's not such a bad thing being number 2 or 3.

MORE children killed on Chinese roads in wake of YueYue's death
This is a bit dated but just wanted to post about how several Chinese children have died on the road due to mass incompetance by drivers.
20/10/2011- Xiong Maoke, 5
In Luzhou,Sichuan (Western China), 5 year old Xiong Maoke was killed after a truck driven by Ao Yang hit him. Although he stopped and called the police and ambulance, it was reported that the boy was stuck under the wheel for several hours while Yang argued with the parents and locals over how much he should pay. Several locals say that he reversed over the boy to ensure he died thus not having to pay long-term healthcare costs (generally 10x that of insurance pad out upon death).
The government and officials insist the child died on impact and this was merely an accident.
23/10/2011- Du Yangyang, 3
Dongguan's Chang'an province in Guangzhou saw three year old Du Yangyang get hit by a truck outside of his family's convenience store after the he went out to walk toward some sand 20 metres away. The child's mother was tending to his little sister in the strore. Chen Shirong, an eyewitness, was screaming at the truck to stop but the driver could not hear and backed up over little Du. Another witness, Lao Liu demanded the driver hand over the keys after he was seen getting out, and then back in, to the truck.
24/10/2011-(another) YueYue,2
In Zencheng, another little girl called YueYue was killed outside of her parents shop when she was hit by a car while playing. Her mother saw this and told the driver to stop. Passers by helped lift the car off of YueYue's head; at 5.30 the ambulance arrived but by 7.00 she was pronounced dead.

An 18 month girl died after being hit by a truck in Xixiang,Shenzen.
Something is seriously wrong in China at the moment. Perhaps some of these were mere accidents but if the drivers DID run over the children after backing up onto their heads, they deserve the DEATH PENALY (in particular for the first two cases as well as the original YueYue case)

Expendables 2 so action packed that Stuntman dies!
The sequel to action-mega-hit The Expendables is full of so much action that one of the stuntmen has been killed while another is in a stable condition in intensive care!
The new Expendables movie has so far confirmed: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Randy Couture,Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger and 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin (basically all of the named Expendables from the first installment except Mickey Rourke; Gary Daniels, Antonio Noguiera and Charisma Carpenter will not be returning).
Yu Nan,Scott Adkins, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris (the latter two will make it, [and their film careers] extra awesome!!!) will be in the new film while Bolo Yeung, Hulk Hogan, Michael Biehn, Donnie Yen, Charlie Sheen (winner!) ,John Travolta and Nicholas Cage (unofficial Face/Off sequel?) are in talks to appear.

Slumdog Millionaire Story Comes True!
The Slumdog Millionaire Story came true as 27 year old Sushil Kumar wins the grand prize of ₹50 million rupees ($1 million USD or £650 thousand GBP) on Kaun Banega Crorepati, India's version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
Apart from the fact that this happened to someone from Bihar (a poor state in India), this is seen as a real life version of the event as Psychology Postgrad Sushil works as a computer operator for less than $120 or £90 a month- that's under $1500 or £1100 a year! The national average in India three years ago was $3000 or £2000! Add to the fact that his father works as a contractor clerk, the family could not afford a TV of their own, Sushil is married, and he has to support two of his five younger brothers who are studying; it's safe to say this was a miracle.
Series one started in 2000-2001 with ₹10 million rupees prize money with Superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the host. It restarted after a four-year hiatus in 2005 to 2006 with the prize money doubling to ₹20 million ruprees. Bachchan suddenly fell ill in 2006 and the second season ended abruptly but series three was hosted by the next-best-celebrity in India, Sharukh Khan. After season three did not do so well due to India comparing Khan to the benchmark of Bachchan, it was in limbo from 2007 to 2010. Bachchan came back in 2010 and although the prize money was educed to ₹10 million rupees , contestants could gamble it all for ₹50 million rupees with the jackpot question.
Before winning the top prize, Kumar phoned his teacher and when he could not get an an answer, he said he would still win it for everyone. After winning it he stated he was worried his father would die of happiness!
Kumar wants to spend some of the money on his own education; the rest will be divided amongst paying off the mortgage on his ancestral home, clearing the debts of his family,educating his younger brothers, and setting up a new home and businesses for his family while also building a school for the poor in India
